Mexican-inspired quick-service restaurant group, Zambrero, has opened its first store in Birmingham, bringing freshly-prepared, flavour-packed dishes to the city’s Colmore Row.

Zambrero has signed a 10-year lease with landlord, Hortons’ Estate Ltd, on unit 5 Colmore Row, part of The Grand in Birmingham. It means that all available retail space on the block is now fully let.

Founded in 2005 by Dr. Sam Prince, one of Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists, Zambrero offers a contemporary twist on Mexican favourites such as burritos, bowls, nachos and tacos.

Zambrero has more than 250 restaurants worldwide, with a growing number of outlets in England, including Greater London, Reading, Chelmsford and most recently Manchester.

Uniquely, through its Plate 4 Plate initiative, Zambrero donates a meal to someone in need for every burrito or bowl they sell. So far they’ve donated more than 72 million meals around the world and now Birmingham locals can help support Zambrero’s goal of donating one billion Plate 4 Plate meals.

The Grand is a mixed-use scheme comprising ground floor shops and bars, with several fronting Colmore Row.

Nina Meeks of Hortons, said: “We’re very pleased that Australia’s biggest Mexican restaurant group has chosen The Grand Birmingham for its first outlet in the region. Zambrero is an ambitious brand that brings a new and exciting concept to Colmore Row, where we now have a full complement of tenants.”

UK chief executive officer at Zambrero, Emily Teh, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening in such a vibrant area in the heart of Birmingham and look forward to being a part of the local community.

We’re excited to be introducing modern Mexican food to Colmore Row, so customers can enjoy freshly prepared meals that are made just the way they like it. And by simply enjoying our food, customers will also be supporting our mission to help end world hunger through our Plate 4 Plate initiative.”

Hortons’ was represented by Simon Smith of Wright Silverwood.
