BOXHALL City, the new elevated food hall concept from BOXPARK, is now open to the public.
Housed in the beautifully restored Metropolitan Arcade opposite Liverpool Street station, BOXHALL City brings together a collection of 13 global restaurants, including independent bakery Sourdough Sophia, pioneering vegan Mexican restaurant Club Mexicana, and fine dining Indian restaurant Farzi, alongside two new bars for the capital featuring a curated wine, cocktail and ‘mindful drinks’ offer and live entertainment.
The Edwardian building, owned by Places for London, TfL’s property company, has been brought to life with global cuisines and experiences for all to enjoy.
In addition to the permanent kitchens, BOXHALL City will also feature a chef residency space called Kitchen No. 8, which will see a rotation of boundary-pushing culinary talent host new menus. Launching the kitchen is Ms Joyce K, star of Channel 4’s Five Star Chef: Britain’s Next Great Chef, who will serve up a Congolese-inspired menu, Biléyi.
Two-time Great British Menu champion James Cochran will take over the kitchen later in the year with his famous fusion of British and Caribbean cuisine.
The two bars at BOXHALL City, named The Ticket Hall and Metropolitan Bar, will serve both signature and classic cocktails. A ‘mindful drinking’ non-alcoholic menu features creations such as ‘Cereal Milk’ and ‘Herbal Exchange’ containing fenugreek syrup, lime, mint and coriander.
To complete the experience there will be live music Wednesday to Sunday, with live bands playing funk, soul and RnB on Wednesdays and Thursdays, hip hop vinyl tracks on Fridays, beach club house through to disco on Saturdays and jazz on Sundays.
BOXHALL City also plans to open a rooftop bar with panoramic views across the City later this year.
Matt Snell, CEO of BOXPARK, said, “Launch day has finally arrived. After months of hard work, we are thrilled to open an entirely new food hall experience for the capital. BOXHALL City is truly a special celebration of international culinary talent, providing workers and visitors to the city with interesting and diverse options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. I am so proud of the BOXPARK team who have worked tirelessly to breathe new life into this historic slice of London, which was planned to be demolished almost 40 years ago. Today, thanks to the efforts of everyone involved, it has been reimagined into a modern day celebration of its original use, and we cannot wait to welcome guests from near and far to see it, and enjoy the amazing food available.”
Samantha Bain-Mollison, Head of Retail at Places for London, said: “We are delighted that BOXHALL City is now open for all to enjoy the new, exciting food options at this busy hub in the City. Being located next to Liverpool Street station, which is served by Tube, national rail and Elizabeth line services, we’re confident this will quickly become a vibrant place for nearby workers and visitors to the area.
Both BOXPARK and Places for London have small and medium sized businesses at the heart of their work, and we’re looking forward to seeing the hundreds of thousands of people who pass through Liverpool Street every day get to explore this new location.”
