Søstrene Grene, the Danish homeware retailer renowned for its Scandinavian-inspired designs, has announced the opening of a new 45,000 m² distribution centre in Venlo, the Netherlands, developed in collaboration with logistics real estate leader Prologis. This state-of-the-art facility will streamline operations across Europe, improving delivery efficiency for Søstrene Grene’s stores and customers, including in the UK.
Scheduled to open by autumn 2025, the distribution centre will improve stock availability, reduce delivery times, and advance Søstrene Grene’s ambitious sustainability targets, including a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.
Introduced to the UK in 2016, Søstrene Grene has rapidly gained popularity for its affordable, design-led home accessories. With 24 UK stores opened this year, bringing the total to 45, and plans to reach 100 by 2030, the Venlo DC will play a vital role in meeting growing demand.
Group CEO and Co-owner Mikkel Grene commented, “The UK is one of our most exciting markets, with customers appreciating our unique blend of Scandinavian design and affordability.
In addition to strengthening logistics, the new DC is a critical part of Søstrene Grene’s sustainability strategy. Designed as a pilot for sustainable construction techniques, it will feature solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and recycled materials, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible growth.”
Mikkel added, “We are committed to growing responsibly. By prioritising sustainability in the design and operation of our new distribution centre, we are making meaningful progress towards our carbon reduction targets while improving service for our customers.”
Strategically located in a major logistics hub in the Netherlands, the Venlo facility will leverage river and rail transport to significantly reduce emissions compared to traditional road freight. This aligns with Søstrene Grene’s broader efforts to promote sustainable logistics across its supply chain.
With over 320 stores in 17 countries and plans to expand to 500 locations by 2027, Søstrene Grene continues to balance international growth with its roots as a family-owned business. Founded in 1973 by the Grene family, the company has been under the leadership of Group CEO and Co-owner Mikkel Grene since 2011.
The Venlo distribution centre will complement the retailer’s existing logistics hub in Aarhus, Denmark, enhancing its ability to serve both Nordic and UK markets while driving forward its long-term sustainability and growth objectives.
