Leadenhall Market continues to expand food and drink portfolio with two more openings

Leadenhall Market is to welcome two more tenants this September, with the opening of Danish coffee project Hagen and Japanese soul food restaurant Rainbo, adding to the three new food & drink outlets which joined the market in June. 

From 4^th September, Danish hospitality will be arriving at Leadenhall Market with Hagen, a Danish coffee project born out of Copenhagen and founded in London. With a mission to deliver premium speciality coffee with a dash of old school class, Hagen’s umbrella of projects are dedicated to highlighting the best parts of Danish coffee in a sustainable way. Enjoy a brew standing up (al banco/håndkaffe) or sitting down at their version of a samtalekøkken /hygge island, while special brew packs and cups will also be available to allow customers to take their Hagen experience home with them. The espresso bar will be open Monday-Friday from 7am-6pm and weekends from 8am-6pm.  

The following week (w/c 11^th Sept), Japanese street food specialists will be opening its doors, with plenty of special offers running throughout the week to celebrate. Rainbo are Japanese street food specialists, having started in 2012 as a humble food truck. Leadenhall Market will now be their fourth location (others are in Canary Wharf, Shoreditch and Hackney), specialising in gyoza, katsu, bao and other Japanese soul food favourites. Initially open Monday-Friday from 11am-4pm, Rainbo will later be launching an afternoon/early evening food and drink menu in the Autumn.

Located in the centre of the City of London’s financial district, Leadenhall Market marked its 700th anniversary in 2021. Originally a meat, poultry and game market, it is now home to a collection of boutique retailers, restaurants, cafes, wine bars and an award-winning pub, The Lamb Tavern.    

The site is owned by the City of London Corporation, who were gifted it in 1411 by the former Lord Mayor Richard ‘Dick’ Whittington. Surviving changes in use, rebuilding and even the Great Fire, its current beautiful Victorian architecture with soaring archways, spectacular painted roof and cobbled streets was designed by Sir Horace Jones (who also designed Smithfield Market and Tower Bridge) and dates back to 1881.
