Fenwick Newcastle collaborates with leading heritage and lifestyle brand Barbour to bring to life the ultimate cosy pop-up with the launch of Barbour Tea and Toasties

Department store, Fenwick, is joining up with another North East icon, British heritage and lifestyle brand, Barbour, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its iconic Liddesdale quilted jacket. The local heroes will be opening the cosy pop-up serving tea and toasties from Friday 4th October until Christmas.

The two family-owned brands share a rich heritage in the region, with a collective 272 years of history between them. Fenwick, founded in 1882 in Newcastle and Barbour, founded in South Shields in 1894, both remain instrumental in the region, despite their national and global expansion as brands. A celebration of the North East provided the inspiration behind the pop-up with the launch of Barbour Tea and Toasties at Fenwick forming part of Barbour’s wider global celebrations of the 30-year anniversary of the Liddesdale quilted jacket, ensuring the brand is providing a one-of-a-kind celebration of the launch in the North East.

Brought to life by Fenwick’s expert restaurant team, the menu has been created in collaboration with local, independent businesses, with gooey cheese from Berwick Edge and tea from Ringtons, a combined celebration of the region’s finest craftmanship. Alongside a quilted restaurant tastefully decorated with Barbour decor, tea will be served in matching quilted cosies.

Developed by Fenwick’s expert restaurant team, the menu draws on the brands’ roots with a fun selection of regionally-named toasties on offer including the Tyne & Moor Melt, filled with Berwick Edge cheese & Newcastle Brown Ale Chutney and The North Eastern, a chicken katsu breaded Northumberland chicken toastie with curry sauce, pickled cucumber and kewpie mayonnaise. There’s also The Farm & Field, a Leverstock Farm mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and basil pesto toastie, The North Sea Scran which is filled with white crab meat, chives and a thermidor style sauce and finally, the Howay the Ham, a classic ham and Berwick Edge cheese combination. Sweet treats will also be on hand such as a tartan brownie & quilted cupcakes

Designed and launched by Dame Margaret Barbour in 1994, 2024 marks a limited-edition release of the Liddesdale diamond-quilted jacket, providing a unique take on the original design. Icons in Quilting celebrations will start at Covent Garden the same week as the Fenwick opening, showcasing a range of 13 bespoke Re-Loved jackets, created by a star-studded line up including friends of the brand, Paul Smith, David Gandy, Ganni and Roksanda, continuing globally with wider activity across Europe and Asia.

Leo Fenwick, Strategic Partnerships Director at Fenwick commented “Fenwick is incredibly proud to partner with fellow North-East icon Barbour for the Tea & Toasties pop-up. We are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to enhance customer experience and this partnership with Barbour, in celebration of the anniversary of one of their most celebrated pieces, allows us to offer something truly unique which we know our customers will enjoy. The pop-up also enhances our restaurant offer which continues to evolve through unexpected collaborations, new Fenwick concepts and an all-round innovative dining experience.”

Acknowledging the importance of celebrating milestones in the region, Paul Wilkinson, Barbour Group Commercial Director/Deputy Group Managing Director comments, “Both Fenwick and Barbour are proud family-owned businesses which are synonymous with the North-East, with a rich history and strong relationship. The pop-up, brought to life by Fenwick’s expert restaurant team, provides an exciting one-off experience for customers.  It forms part of our wider plans to build our valued partnership together with our latest globally recognised collaboration collections set to launch with Fenwick in the coming months.”

No need to book, Barbour Tea and Toasties at Fenwick will be welcoming walk-in customers into the warmth from 4th October until Christmas.
