A new Co-op store launches today to serve and support the Cambridgeshire village of Comberton.

The 2,750 sq ft convenience store, located in West Street, Comberton, opens between 7am-10pm daily and created 12 local jobs.

The store will operate as a Co-op franchise – the convenience retailer is committed to growing its award-winning franchise business, with the model enabling Co-op to bring its products and, the benefits of Membership, to more communities.

Comberton’s Co-op includes an in-store bakery and Costa Coffee Express machine alongside a focus on fresh, healthy produce; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; Fairtrade products, flowers, chilled beers and award-winning wines; ready meals, pizzas and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

A soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store to enable the community to recycle items including crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches – ensuring all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable through local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store ‘soft-plastic’ recycling unit.

Sarah Clark, Co-op Store Manager, said: “We have had a great response. The whole team is delighted to have had the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community, conveniently. With a focus on delivering member-value so that the people who own our business, our member-owners, benefit every time they shop. We are enjoying welcoming the community into their new Co-op.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives. Its Member-owners own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation, enjoying a wide number of benefits including member-only pricing across everyday essentials and personalised offers via the Co-op Membership app.
