Lakeside Shopping Centre has achieved a significant milestone in environmental excellence by winning an International Green Apple Environment Award, its fourth Green Apple Award in three years. This prestigious recognition identifies and celebrates the greenest companies.
Selected from over 1,200 nominations worldwide, Lakeside Shopping Centrereceived this coveted accolade at a glittering awards ceremony held at Kensington Palace, London, on 18 November. The event celebrated organisations committed to sustainability and innovative environmental practices, reinforcing the palace’s historic reputation.
The award was presented by Richard Wilkins. General Manager at Sony UK Technology Centre, Wales, winners of this year’s International Green Apple Awards Champion of Champions.
As part of this achievement, Lakeside Shopping Centrehas been invited to further their success as a Green World Ambassador. This honour includes the publication of their award-winning environmental project in The Green Book, an internationally recognised reference on environmental best practices. Through this publication, LAKESIDE SHOPPING CENTRE will inspire and guide others worldwide to adopt sustainable solutions.
The recognition doesn’t end there— Lakeside Shopping Centreis then able to represent their country at the upcoming Green World Environment Awards in New Zealand next year. This international platform brings together the world’s leading innovators in sustainability to exchange ideas and further global environmental stewardship.
The Green Apple Awards are organised by The Green Organisation, a respected independent, non-profit environmental group established in 1994. Dedicated to recognising, rewarding, and promoting environmental best practices worldwide, the organisation’s efforts have grown to highlight the critical importance of sustainable action in today’s world.

The independent judging panel of The Green Apple Awards, commented, “Lakeside Shopping Centre transformed a vacant area into a sustainable ‘Nature Garden,’ incorporating eco-friendly features like a beehive, solar-powered pond, bug hotels, and recycled materials. The £16,000 project promotes biodiversity, community engagement, and environmental education. It serves as a peaceful retreat, supports local wildlife, and fosters sustainability.”
Kensington Palace served as a fitting backdrop, with its royal history and iconic status as a premier venue for hosting globally important events.
