Network Rail Property has welcomed new GAIL’s bakeries at London Bridge and London Liverpool Street stations, as part of GAIL’s entry into travel retail.
The new GAIL’s store at London Liverpool Street station, which opened in February, boasts 2,730 sq ft of prime retail space. Perfectly located within the flagship space of London’s busiest station, this store will offer all-day dining options, including freshly made coffee, handmade bread, pastries and a selection of sandwiches and other delicious food choices.
Comprising 980 sq ft the new GAIL’s store at destination station London Bridge has also just opened, bringing passengers the classic GAIL’s experience that food fans know and love. The London Bridge unit gives customers a clear vision through to the bakery engine room adding a sense of theatre.
Customers at both London Bridge and Liverpool Street stations will benefit from an elevated food-to-go experience with GAIL’s using ingredients from UK-based butchers, cheese producers and vegetable growers as part of its menu offering.
The hero product at GAIL’s is its delicious cinnamon bun. Golden, flaky croissant pastry filled with cinnamon, brown sugar and butter, baked and then tossed in cinnamon sugar. Over the last 12 months, GAIL’s has sold over 2 million cinnamon buns across its bakeries.
The last 18 months has seen Network Rail proactively evolve the retail mix across its 19 managed stations by introducing new brands and experiences.
Network Rail own and manage over 600,000 sq ft of prime retail space in major city centre locations. Across all Network Rail managed stations, there are more than 700 million visits per year. Income generated from retail and F&B is crucial to Network Rail’s ongoing reinvestment into the transformation of British railways.
Hamish Kiernan, Commercial Director, Property at Network Rail, comments: “Customer demand for quality food and drink continues to go from strength to strength across our 19 destination stations. And with bakery one of the top three most used categories in London Bridge and Liverpool Street stations, our GAIL’s openings are really delivering on the needs and wants of our passengers.”
A spokesperson from GAIL’s, comments: “GAIL’s has a few bakeries located in railway stations, such as GAIL’s at St Pancras and GAIL’s at London Bridge. These have been thoughtfully designed to reflect the warmth and generosity of GAIL’s in a slightly more formal way that is seen in their London village bakeries. A cross between a business lounge and a bakery, with the design nuances often found in transport hubs around the world, the bakery offers relaxed dwell spaces for travellers.”
