Opening brings an investment of £5.5 million to boost Scottish leisure market and create 80 jobs

XSite Braehead is excited to announce that K1 Speed, the world’s premier indoor karting operator, will be opening its UK flagship at the entertainment destination. This state-of-the-art facility, featuring the world’s longest indoor karting track, is backed by a significant £5.5 million investment, demonstrating K1 Speed’s confidence in both the Scottish market and the future of XSite Braehead. The investment will create approximately 80 jobs, making it a major boost to the local economy.

The new K1 Speed venue will bring a new level of excitement to the region, combining the thrill of high-speed electric karting with a cutting-edge e-sports lounge. Scheduled to open in Autumn 2025, K1 Speed will transform the former Snowfactor site into a vibrant hub of activity. Featuring an expansive three-decked indoor karting track that spans over 1000 metres, the facility will be designed to accommodate up to 35 high-performance electric karts racing simultaneously.

K1 Speed, renowned for its 100 locations worldwide, including 70 sites in the USA and locations in international countries such as Canada, Mexico, France and Italy, selected Braehead for its rich motorsport history and strategic location near Glasgow’s international airport. The venue is expected to attract a diverse audience from all over Europe – from go-karting enthusiasts and corporate businesses to families and casual gamers – offering an impressive entertainment experience.

Spanning over 90,000 sq ft., this high-spec multi-level track, equipped with the latest in safety technology and advanced timing systems, will offer racers of all skill levels a unique and exhilarating experience. The karts, priced at £15,000 each, are the most advanced in the world, capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 mph and accelerating to top speed in seconds.

In addition to the karting track, the venue will feature a state-of-the-art e-sports lounge equipped with premium racing simulators, offering an exceptional experience for both individuals and groups. The high-spec simulators featuring advanced gaming technology will position K1 Speed Braehead as a prime location for hosting international e-sports competitions.

This aspect of the venue highlights the growth of e-sports as both a spectator sport in its own right, and a key avenue for talent scouting and audience growth. The popularity of motorsports has surged, particularly following the success of the ‘F1 Drive to Survive’ series on Netflix, which has increased viewership by 58 percetnt in the USA and 39 percent in the UK. XSite Braehead aims to serve as an incubator for future F1 stars, fostering a next generation of talent.

K1 Speed will create multiple opportunities to engage with a broader audience, making the venue a comprehensive destination for family fun, corporate events and social gatherings. K1 Speed will also be fully inclusive and accessible to all, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the excitement of indoor karting and gaming. This focus on accessibility is a key part of K1 Speed’s commitment to engage with the local community.

Kitty Vaughan, Head of UK Leisure and F&B at Pradera Lateral, XSite’s Asset Management team said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome K1 Speed to XSite Braehead making us the home of the world’s largest indoor karting track and e-sports venue.
