schuh has announced the introduction of single shoe purchases across all its stores. schuh want as many people as possible to be able to visit its stores and for customers to feel confident and valued.

From Friday 30th August, customers who require only one shoe due to a limb difference or disability will be able to purchase a single shoe in-store. The single shoe will be taken from a new pair, and a 50 percent discount will be applied. For customers unable to get to a schuh store, the initiative is also available via schuh’s customer experience team.

Neil Partington, Chief Retail Officer said: “Creating an inclusive shopping experience is a key part of our business strategy. I am delighted to be able to roll out single-shoe purchases to all schuh stores. We have been doing it via our Customer Experience team for some time, but now, even more people will have access to our hottest brands and products through this inclusive product offering.”

The initiative is part of schuh’s ongoing commitment to disability equality. Disability equality is a crucial brand purpose pillar which schuh actively seeks to understand better, spotlight and support for its disabled customers, employees and in the wider community. schuh’s disability equality employee group and the wider business work with key partners and consultants and seek regular feedback from its customers and workforce to improve the shopping experience for disabled people.

schuh is dedicated to ensuring that all our customers, including those with disabilities, feel represented across all product touchpoints. This dedication can be seen in the diverse casting of adult and kids campaigns and schuh social channels. Image descriptors and enhanced social content such as subtitles ensure content is accessible. 10 percent of all e-commerce product imagery shot this year features disabled models or models with visible differences. schuh also observes quiet hours in a number of stores and has a social stories resource available on its website to showcase what to expect when shopping in schuh stores.

The purpose-led footwear retailer is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and providing meaningful opportunities to young people. schuh has been working with Liverpool City Council since 2022 to offer employment trials and employment opportunities to young people with SEND (special educational needs or disabilities) and introduced supported internships to the North-West region in 2023.

Alongside this, the schuh learning and development team continues to offer its store staff disability confidence training and neurodiversity training so they have the knowledge, understanding and practical approaches to provide additional support and adjustments to customers

Celebrating self-expression and diversity is part of schuh’s culture, and it is dedicated to continuous education, fuelling change and funding the future, lending its platform to diverse voices, and continuing its progress towards accessibility and inclusion.
